R.A. Wiedemann & Associates was selected to perform aviation system planning tasks for this study including the forecasts, facility needs assessment, capacity analysis, alternatives evaluation, recommended plan, and financial implementation plan. In addition, Wiedemann performed an Airport Community Value assessment for this system of airports. Located in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex, the North Central Texas region covers a 16 county area and 56 public-use airports. During the planning effort, the number of airports carried through the plan was reduced to 41. However, these airports included 11 towered general aviation reliever airports to DFW and Love Field.
Innovation was a part of the system planning design for this study, where Airport Community Value, HD video production, and new system metrics were developed. R.A. Wiedemann & Associates developed software to analyze entire alternative systems of airports and options with different forecast assumptions. In addition, the software tracked the improvements through each alternative and assigned costs for facility improvements. These costs were aggregated by region and airport category.
