R.A. Wiedemann & Associates, Inc. was selected to perform a business plan for Scholes International Airport. This airport is located on Galveston Island in the southern end of the Houston metroplex. The airport served six helicopter transportation services that transported workers to and from oil drilling and production platforms in the Gulf of Mexico.

The airport had a large land area and two major non-aviation tenants that drew more than 2 million visitors each year:

  • Moody Gardens
  • Schlitterbahn Water Park

Preceding the business plan, aviation activity had declined and the airport desired a plan that would increase revenues and take advantage of the large infrastructure available.

Because Hurricane Ike had physically damaged the airport, the Airport brand sustained damage as well. In response, the airport made several changes to protect tenants against future harsh storms. The business plan identified a number of potential growth opportunities for the airport and developed a plan for implementing those changes.
