R.A. Wiedemann & Associates, Inc. was selected to perform a business plan for Sussex County Airport (Delaware Coastal Airport) under the sponsorship of the Delaware Department of Transportation. The airport is located near the Delaware beaches in southeastern Delaware.
The desire of the County was to increase financial performance at the airport in a time of aviation activity declines and poor economic conditions.
In addition to the attraction of more corporate aviation and a pricing strategy for hangar rentals, R.A. Wiedemann & Associates developed a branding strategy to tie the Airport into the beaches. Under this concept, the County would begin to brand itself and its beach communities in much the same manner as the Outer Banks communities (OBX) have done.
In addition to this initiative, recommendations concerning hangar development, non-aeronautical land development, and retention of their main MRO facility (PATS) was included. A new runway extension permitted Sussex County to rebrand the Airport, and seek to attract larger numbers of users.
